Dr Lucy Holtzhausen : Medical Doctor

Lucy has been race medical director for Taupo Ironman over the past 4 years. She currently consults as a sports and musculoskeletal medicine doctor at Auckland Family Medical Centre. She has in the past been chief investigator in a number of research projects at the University of Cape Town looking at the fluid needs of ultra-endurance athletes and the most appropriate way to treat collapsed athletes.
 
Roger Gooch: Soft-tissue massage therapist @ Bodysmart Gym, Auckland CBD

Roger has been a Clinical Massage Therapist for more than 10 years after graduating from the NZ College of Massage with diplomas in Therapeutic Massage and Body Therapies in 1996.Roger was head of the sports department at the NZ College of Massage from 2002 - 2006 and helped create its 2000-hour Massage and Clinical Sports Diploma. Roger is co-owner of the BodySmart gym and pre- and rehabilitation facility. He has been a NZ Academy of Sports Accredited Sports Massage Therapist since 1999 and is Massage Director of NZ Ironman. Roger attended both the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Paralympics as a member of the NZ health team.He has worked with several high-profile sports teams and individual athletes including the Auckland Blues rugby side (1999), Joanna Lawn (presently world No 4 Ironwoman) and kayaker Ben Fouhy (Olympic silver medallist K1000, Athens).Roger combines hands-on soft tissue therapy with musculoskeletal assessment to provide a pain free result and/or an improved performance. He uses progressive corrective exercises to encourage client self responsibility. His approach is based on control of the central nervous system, building endurance of muscles/body and increasing aerobic fitness and strength. Roger collaborates with several like-minded health professionals -- including his colleagues at BodySmart -- to achieve the best outcome for his clients.

Rebecca Underdown: Personal Trainer @ Bodysmart Gym, Auckland CBD
 
A native of Timaru, Rebecca began work as a personal trainer while completing the last year of her Physical Education degree at Otago University (1996). She has worked in a small number of high-profile gyms and has continued to keep up with developments in the field.Rebecca has worked with members of the New Zealand women's hockey side, an array of multi-sports athletes and is personal trainer to NZ Ironwoman champion and World No 3 Joanne Lawn (see case study). About 75 per cent of Rebecca's client base comes from the business world and have health, fitness, weight loss or postural issues. She describes her training philosophy as one that stresses the relationship with the client."From a perspective of improving someone's fitness and strength I like to apply a personal approach encompassing nutrition and motivational aspects at the same time." Rebecca has also helped developed an internet-based software package -- PT Pro -- to help personal trainers and gyms manage their businesses.
 
Caryn Zinn - Sport Nutritionist

Caryn is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian and is accredited as a sports nutritionist with Sports and Exercise Science New Zealand. She currently lectures in the area of sports nutrition at Massey University and runs a private practice, where she consults with a variety of clients, including both elite and recreational athletes. Being the Dietitian associated with the Auckland marathon, she sees many marathon and ½ marathon competitors in her practice. She works with the New Zealand Academy of Sport athletes and is currently working with New Zealand triathlon, hockey, yachting, rugby and rugby league. She has also been the consultant sports dietitian to the Vodafone New Zealand Warriors for the last two years. Caryn has a regular column in the New Zealand Fitness Magazine where she writes about topical nutrition issues and regularly contributes to the Healthy Food Guide nutrition magazine
